New Year Series #1

For the remainder of January and early Feb I am documenting some interesting Aussie artists and asking them what their plans are for 2017, and what they are most looking forward to in the world of new music. This is my New Year Series.

Sydney hip hop artist Lostkeyz (Doron Losky) with a bunch of flowers

Last year I was impressed by Lostkeyz when together with Kuren, who produced the track, he released the track ‘Horror Stories’. Now I am following up with the young Sydney artist to see what his plans are for 2017. And boy, is he prepared for the new year. First, for those who haven’t heard any of Doron’s music before, I’d recommend checking this one out (perhaps while you read along).

“This year has been a blast so far.”

Doron Losky (aka Lostkeyz) has started 2017 on the front foot, releasing a music video for his track ‘SLWDWN’. “[I’m] pretty happy with the response,” the Sydney artist said about the video. You can find it on his Facebook page here.

Having dropped his single ‘Arrived’ in the last month for his upcoming EP, Lostkeyz is set to release another single soon too. “The EP is looking like a 5 track self-titled collection of songs that really speak to me and hopefully inspire others.”

“There’s something really special about watching someone in their element perform and captivate a crowd.”

As part of this series, I am asking artists what their New Years Resolutions are or what they’re hoping to improve on. Doron is planning to see more live concerts on top of the already pack list he saw in 2016. “There’s something really special about watching someone in their element perform and captivate a crowd.” That’s a sentiment I highly agree with, which is why it’s also this author’s goal to see more live music this year too.

As for what this Sydney artist is looking forward to, he told me he’s on the lookout for the Chance x Childish Gambino release, a new Andre 3000 album, and a new Joey Badass project. Doron would also love to see Noname perform on our shores. “I haven’t stopped listening to Telefone since it saw light.”

With that, I will leave you with a track from Noname herself. Here’s hoping she does make it down to Australia. A special thanks to Lostkeyz for being the first in this series and all the best with your upcoming EP and 2017 as a whole!

On January 27 Lostkeyz will be supporting Melbourne artist Ryland Rose on his mini-tour at The World Bar in Sydney.
